Daytime Sequins - The Last Blog of 2013

So the eagle eyed among you will have spotted that I'm not wearing actual sequins, just a sequin illusion. Still, I like a good contrast and daytime sequins is the best kind, especially for the festive season.

Being the last blog post of 2013 it feels right to wear a bit of glam, particularly because my great plans to welcome in the new year consist mainly of sitting on the sofa with a curry. Either way, it's New Year's Eve and you've got to wear a bit or sparkle, even if that means teaming with stomach-expansion trousers (leggings) whilst spilling tikka masala down yourself. HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Boohoo #DRESSMAS

In classic Hannah fashion, I spotted the Boohoo #DRESSMAS competition when it was first announced and I thought, why yes, I would like to enter this competition. I also thought it'd be good to actually get an OOTN here on the blog too as I haven't before.

So of course, I don't get my outfit snaps done on any of those weekends where the sun has been shining, instead I wait until the last day of the competition when the rain and wind has turned up in full force. Needless to say, taking these pictures was quite a sorry experience and I felt quite the prat dressed up to the nines at 11am on a Sunday.

So anyway, this is my #DRESSMAS entry. This outfit is what I've got earmarked for my Christmas party. It's not a look I'd usually go for, simply because bodycon is really quite unforgiving but it's Christmas and I'll be wearing it, food baby or not.

Bow & Vans

What with Christmas preoccupation and 70% darkness, my blogging has fallen by the wayside a little. Plus, after getting sent a pair of sheepskin boots at work, I've hardly taken them off my feet. While I think it is possible to make UGG boots work in a fashion sense, they're not really fashion blog fodder.

Apologies if that makes me sound like a douchebag, it's just that I know there's a lot of hate when it comes to UGGs and I just want to make friends!

Anyway, back to the point. When I'm not wearing my toasty-feet-makers I've been loving sporty styles. Saying that, these 'sporty' Vans are about half a size too big, so if I try to run in them they end up flapping about in a very unbecoming way.

This bow blouse has featured here before because it is quite simply one of the best vintage finds ever. It really does photograph like a dream (second douchebag statement).

Day to Night Outfit

I like day to night outfits. There's something very pleasing about how just changing your shoes and shedding a jacket can transform your look.

I'm not really a jeans and top girl for going out out, instead I wore this for a nice meal but I am of the opinion that adding heels pretty much makes any outfit out out worthy. As far as heels go, these boots are the comfiest ever. I feel kind of bad actually because all my other (high and uncomfortable) shoes are continually shunned. Sorry shoes.

I'm still loving monochrome, it's definitely an all year round trend. The brown leather jacket breaks it up a bit and is a bit different to the usual black. Plus I don't have a black leather jacket so the brown had no choice.

Since the weather turned Arctic I have been wearing beanies every day. I'm currently on the hunt for a pair of ear muffs that don't stick out ten inches from my head for hair-up days. My ears get cold!

Get Yer Coat Out

This year I am OBSESSED with coats. I've already dropped £40 on a fur number I found in a charity shop and this weekend added a H&M shearling biker jacket to my overflowing wardrobe.

There's nothing quite like rediscovering one of your old favourites though and this camel coat is most definitely a major favourite. It was a measly £29.99 in H&M last year..? Maybe the year before and it's one of the best bargains I've ever found.

Under the coat of dreams is my new fave t-shirt dress from River Island and with the cold weather comes the Kevin McCallister hat collection back in circulation. Thrown all together with my boyish brogues and red lipstick I really love this outfit. I do not love my slightly demonic gaze in the first picture, so sorry about that.

Simple Autumn Outfit

Ah remember the time before coats? I admit it, these pictures aren't from today but this is the life we live in when it's dark before I leave work, we're all just going to have to deal with it. The cold has well and truly set in the past couple of days and there is no chance of me galivanting about in a mere two layers anymore. In fact today I donated £40 to charity in exchange for a faux fur coat (it's a real Carrie Bradshaw number, couldn't believe my luck!)

I seem to be veering towards simple combinations in outfits these days. Leggings, a plain white tee and a denim shirt was all I needed for the basis of this outfit. I think accessories really make a look and simple dressing puts more emphasis on them. I forget how much I love this bag and I think it's really unexpected that it's from Primark. The turquoise watch also adds a little something but don't judge me for the fact its battery is dead.

Do you like to let accessories do the talking?

Rydell High

I know, I know I'm so Grease is the word. To be honest this wasn't intentional, I can't wear this skirt with jackets or cardigans longer than waist length, so it's a case of using whatever I've got. Unfortunately, this meant looking like an extra from Rydell High. On reflection, I'm not overly happy with the look but I'd already taken the pictures and I hate waste!

Do you ever find yourself disliking outfits after you've snapped them?

Check or Tartan

Tartan and check is having a right old moment in fashion right now. I'm not quite sure if this shirt falls into the tartan or check category but I already had it in my wardrobe, so I'm loving life basically.

The dress I'm wearing is that well known drape back number from InLoveWithFashion but not being one to confine certain styles to specific situations, I'm rocking it for a daytime look. It's all about the layers at this time of year so chucking on a shirt over the top makes it work for day and then I can whip it all off for party time!

Or something.

The denim jacket is vintage Levis that I found in Barcelona (damn, what a hipster I sound) and it's so massive that it's perfect for winter because I can actually fit jumpers on underneath it. Don't you hate jackets that won't allow for a jumper? The tights are clever built in sock type jobbies that I got from Pretty Polly. I do really love them but I bladdy laddered them the last time I wore them which is so much more painful when the tights cost more than a pound.

Styling Nike Free Run Trainers

I should probably say, before any serious runners see this and think I have been buying proper trainers for the sake of fashion, I did not buy these shoes expecting them to appear on my blog. I bought them for the gym (and a little bit because my feet hurt while walking around New York) and it just so happens they're so comfy and kind of awesome, I felt the need to shoehorn (pun intended) them into my day-to-day wardrobe. I love the sort of shark blue-grey colour contrasted with the yellow, they're SO comfortable and if there was a zombie apocalypse, I'm safe in the knowledge that my shoes won't let me down.

I may have said it before but I have a bit of a thing for wacky, unexpected colour combination trainers. If I ever won Euromillions I would probably end up with a room full of them but I try to keep my addiction under control as best I can.

I think if you do want to style proper trainer-y trainers into your usual wardrobe, they have to be paired with the very opposite style of clothes. My whole outfit is pretty casual until I added the blazer which tips the balance back from lazy outfit into 'fashion'.

Or at least I think so.

The white nails, chain necklace and purple lipstick stop this look from being a bit weird and boring and give it a bit more 'edge'.
